How International Intrigue handles reader information across the newsletter, public website, analytics, and related services.
The short version
International Intrigue is a media newsletter and website. We collect the information needed to send the newsletter, operate the site, protect the service, and understand basic newsletter and website performance.
We do not sell personal information. The website uses essential operational technologies plus cookieless Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights. The site is prepared for optional Google Analytics and PostHog later, but those tools do not run unless they are configured and you choose to allow analytics.
Information we collect
Newsletter signup information: when you subscribe, we collect the email address you provide and the signup placement on the site. If we later ask for optional profile details, we will identify those fields at the point of collection.
Newsletter delivery and engagement information: Beehiiv, our newsletter platform, may process subscription status, delivery events, opens, clicks, unsubscribe actions, and related email-performance information.
Website technical and analytics information: our hosting, security, and analytics providers may process standard request data such as IP address, browser or device information, requested URL, referrer, timestamps, page-performance signals, and error or operational logs. If optional analytics are configured later and you allow them, we may also collect site-event information such as newsletter signup starts, signup outcomes, and Intrigue Insiders out-clicks.
Content-management information: Sanity stores site content and related editorial data. It is not used as a reader database for this V1 site.
How we use information
We use reader information to send the newsletter, manage subscriptions and unsubscribes, respond to reader requests, troubleshoot delivery or website issues, protect against spam and abuse, maintain security, and comply with legal obligations.
We may use aggregate or de-identified information to understand broad readership, site performance, signup conversion, and sponsor reporting, but we do not use this site to build on-site advertising profiles in V1.
Service providers
We use service providers to run the site and newsletter. Today, that includes Beehiiv for newsletter subscriptions and email delivery, Vercel for website hosting, deployment, web analytics, and speed insights, Sanity for content management, and GitHub for source-code hosting and deployment workflow. The codebase is prepared for optional Google Analytics and PostHog, but they do not run unless configured.
Those providers process information on our behalf according to their own terms and privacy commitments. If you click through to Beehiiv-hosted archives or the Intrigue Insiders hub, those services may collect information under their own privacy policies.
Cookies and analytics
Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights help us understand page usage and Core Web Vitals without using reader-identifying cookies. Google Analytics and PostHog are prepared for later use, but they only load if their project IDs are configured and you choose "Allow analytics" in the consent banner.
If optional analytics are not configured, no consent banner is shown for them. If they are configured and you choose "Continue with necessary only," optional analytics stay off. Essential hosting, security, or newsletter-provider technologies may still be used to deliver pages, remember operational state, prevent abuse, or process newsletter subscriptions. You can also control many browser-level cookie settings in your browser.
When we share information
We share information with service providers that help us operate the newsletter and website, when required by law or valid legal process, to protect readers or the service from abuse, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not give subscriber lists to advertisers for their own independent marketing.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email. You can also contact us to ask about access, correction, deletion, or other privacy requests.
Some requests may require us to verify your identity or retain limited information where required for legal, security, or operational reasons.
Retention
We keep subscriber information while your subscription is active or as needed to provide the newsletter, maintain suppression lists, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and keep reasonable business records.
Technical logs are retained according to our providers' retention settings and operational needs.
International readers
International Intrigue has readers around the world. Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and other locations where our team or providers operate.
Where privacy laws require specific rights or safeguards, we will handle requests according to those requirements.
Children
International Intrigue is written for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site, newsletter, providers, or legal requirements change. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
