About International Intrigue

Daily geopolitical briefings from former diplomats for 161,000+ readers worldwide.

Who we are

Intrigue Media is a US-based, internationally-focused media company best known for our flagship newsletter, International Intrigue, which is delivered to 161,000+ inboxes daily across governments, corporations, academia, and beyond.

We were founded by former diplomats and media experts who set out to help our audience make sense of an increasingly complex world of geopolitics. We’re apolitical, communicate in plain, easy-to-understand language, with an added dash of humour to keep things enjoyable.

Why we do it

We can’t bear to slog through unintelligible foreign policy articles, soft power theories, or arcane details of trade policy any longer. Our readers trust our team of former diplomats because of their firsthand experience with robust research and writing detailed government briefs.

We prioritize facts with clarity and precision over clickbait. We believe news should be accessible to all readers, no matter where they are in their careers or their level of global affairs expertise.

What we do

International Intrigue is our flagship weekday newsletter, delivered to 161,000+ subscribers from around the world. It connects the dots and exposes the intersections of issues across global affairs, business, and technology.

Intrigue Insiders is the paid member layer for readers who want more: deeper briefings, community access, and member-only programming through the hub at hub.internationalintrigue.io/subscribe.

Meet the team

The only briefing designed by former diplomats.

  • John headshot

    John

Former diplomat in Beijing and Shanghai. Mandarin speaker. Helen constantly says my jokes are ‘drier than dust’, but she’ll have to do better than that to stop me.

  • Helen headshot

    Helen

Former diplomat in Tel Aviv and Hong Kong. Better Mandarin speaker than John, who reminds me that just because I went to Harvard doesn’t mean I’m always right.

  • Jeremy headshot

    Jeremy

Former diplomat in Mexico City, Los Angeles, and Lima. Spanish speaker. Awarded Peru’s Presidential Medal for Distinguished Service for… well, distinguished service.

  • Kristen Talman headshot

    Kristen Talman

Whether jetting around Washington or high flying elsewhere, I stay on the move™. Always hungry for a good tale with an eye for the movers and shakers behind it all.

  • Valentina Calvi headshot

    Valentina Calvi

I survived not one, but two university degrees focused on international politics and economics. Exhilarated to be the brains behind our daily newsletter. Library-dweller and proud owner of too many books and not enough shelf space.
